Reports to: Development Director

Location: Remote

Public Agenda, a national nonpartisan, not for profit organization based in New York City, works to build a democracy that works for everyone, is more important now than ever to America and its future. We pursue our mission through research and public engagement, with the following goals:

  • Show a clear picture of the challenges facing American communities, including education, health care, police-community relations, and climate change.
  • Help leaders better understand and respond to the public’s views, values and concerns.
  • Center the experiences and of those most directly affected by a problem, and ensure that they have a role in forging solutions.

The Development Associate is an essential part of a small team which reports to the Development Director. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, creative, and possesses a professional work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving.

We seek candidates with a relevant Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience in non-profit fundraising, grant-writing, donor relations or development as well as an eagerness to learn and grow.

This position is full-time and currently remote, candidates should be available to work during Eastern Standard Time business hours.

Essential tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations and corporate donors
  • Draft donor and foundation correspondence including thank you letters, invites, annual fund requests, and reports
  • Work with the director to prepare grant proposals, reports, applications and related correspondence
  • Work with the director to plan and implement special events
  • Assist with cultivation and stewardship of donors, helping to grow and retain Public Agenda’s individual donor base
  • Manage the fundraising database and calendar
  • Handle administrative tasks, such as meeting scheduling and preparation, and other related functions as needed
  • Copyediting of reports, proposals, and other materials

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or humanities
  • Strong writing, editing, fact checking, proofing, research and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to manage time effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps (Google Docs and Google Sheets)
  • Strong commitment to the mission and work of Public Agenda and the issues we work on, which include health, higher education, K-12 education, democracy and civic engagement

Preferred Background:

  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM
  • Knowledge of AP Style
