About BrightUp

We’re a VC-backed FinTech startup with a twist. We help workers and their loved ones grow their net-worth and reinforce their self-worth. To do this, we provide a suite of financial wellness tools including a FICO-agnostic emergency loan repaid through paycheck deductions, fairly-priced debt refinancing, and personalized educational content/financial coaching. We are seed stage, pre-PMF and with big goals. We believe one’s current level of wealth should not define their worth or worthiness to learn how to become more financially healthy and holistically wealthy. We’re a Black woman-led team, collectively with 40+ years of experience in financial services. We look forward to working alongside doers who are passionate about our mission to democratize the wealth building and well-being of our users.

The Role

Our MVP was built with the support of an external Dev-Shop and we plan to transition our tech build into a hybrid internal/external model. Our product is a B2B2C mobile-optimized WebApp connected via APIs to a growing number of 3rd Party services and will eventually transition to iOS/Android. As Tech Lead, you will be the inhouse expert on all things technical. You will develop an intimate knowledge of all the nuances of our existing product, identifying areas for improvement, efficiency, better performance and scalability. You will collaborate closely with our Dev-Shop and Product team to structure a scalable product and ensure our development work is running on schedule and error free. If you're looking for an early stage startup where you can shape a technology organization from scratch while making a difference in the world, let's talk!

What you’ll need to do

  • Work closely with our Dev-Shop to understand all nuances of the product (including the framework, architecture, tech-stack, code, strengths, limitations and opportunities)
  • Audit our system architecture to identify opportunities for efficiency
  • Partner and advise the external Dev-Shop on their build, with an eye
  • towards scale and speed
  • Cultivate a deep knowledge of the business objectives of the product and the user experience expectations
  • Participate in cross-functional design meetings, including with our bank and 3rd party embedded technology partners, to provide comprehensive tech guidance
  • Participate In feature prioritization meetings, advising on the technical complexity of product ideas
  • Design, build and then lead a hybrid tech organization, based on your view of the structure that will produce the highest quality product and allow for most agility
  • Advise on how to enhance our current product development to be more agile and leverage best practice pre-deployment testing
  • Provide guidance on data security, privacy, compliance and other areas related to tech-enabled payments and lending
  • Participate in UAT testing, debugging errors in production and other user issues
