About the role
We’re seeking our first full-time Communications Lead to guide the evolution of brand strategy; oversee narrative positioning through public events, thought leadership, digital presence and PR; and drive an effective owned media approach through Einhorn Collaborative’s new online engagement hub, monthly newsletter, staff-generated blogs, and social media channels.
Reporting to the Executive Director and working alongside the Program Strategy Leads, this new role of Communications Lead will shape and execute strategic communications and content development to advance the Foundation’s work and mission.
This is a full-time opportunity to be part of a small, talented, and committed team effecting positive social change through nationally recognized, collaborative philanthropic initiatives. Given the nature of the work, we have a strong preference for candidates with experience working in or with nonprofits.
- Brand Narrative: Building on the 2020 rebrand completed by BBMG, the Communications Lead will guide the evolving execution of the communications strategy, assessing its impact, and facilitating new tactics to ensure an increasingly effective approach to external communications and influence.
- Storytelling and Storybank: Manage and build Einhorn Collaborative’s Connection Hub by collecting, vetting, storing, and sharing tools, research, and resources from our grantee partners and the fields in which we work. Designed to curate stories and novel content by increasing public awareness of the crisis of connection and its solutions, the Hub amplifies reflections written by Einhorn Collaborative staff as well as contributions from guest authors, new research generated by the field, and other tools and resources that serve our growing community of peers and practitioners interested in advancing human connection and social cohesion.
- Editorial and Content Strategy: The Communications Lead will be charged with overseeing the strategic development and deployment of high-quality content, including helping to develop, shape, draft, and edit novel content from across the team and guest authors, managing our editorial calendar, content strategy, and publication cadence, as well as producing and driving the amplification of content via our monthly newsletter, social media, as well as through external platforms and partnerships, seeking to more deeply engage and expand a wider audience.
- Partnership Engagement: Engage/collaborate with Einhorn Collaborative team members, grantee partners, peer funders, and strategically-aligned organizations to identify relevant opportunities for partnership on public events, co-authored content, and other approaches to public engagement.
- Thought Leadership and Events: Build and manage a cohesive thought leadership program in support of the Founder, Executive Director, and Program Strategy Leads in service of advancing the mission. Develop and oversee an annual events calendar in service of thought leadership amplification by helping to shape and produce high-quality events, often in partnership with strategically-aligned organizations. The Communications Lead will be responsible for ensuring that team members have clear messaging, relevant stories, and ample preparation for every public appearance and that all external representation of Einhorn Collaborative is strategically positioned and mission-aligned.
- Public Relations: Manage incoming media inquiries and work alongside grantees or partners on external opportunities that build recognition in the field. As appropriate, seek proactive media engagement opportunities that can further the dissemination and visibility of the crisis of connection and its solutions.
- Innovation and Room to Grow: Because this is a new role, there is opportunity to innovate and try new things (while assessing effectiveness) toward our strategic communications goals.
A senior strategic thinker, strategist, and exceptional writer, with a sharp sense of driving effective narratives and storytelling in service of field building and social change, with an understanding of the landscape in which we work. This role requires diligence and sensitivity, a willingness to act behind the scenes, and a deep passion for communicating on behalf of the mission. A minimum of 10 years of strategic-level communications experience working in national or global organizations or companies is expected.
- 10+ years of professional experience working in strategic communications. Experience working at or serving nonprofit and/or mission-driven organizations highly preferred.
- Strategic and tactical planning; ability to respond to organizational goals with concrete, implemented plans and demonstrated experiencing executing those plans smoothly.
- Experience building thought leadership including a timed calendar, supported events, sharable products, and other materials as needed.
- Substantial expert-level experience writing, editing, and finalizing a wide range of content products in various media, including print, audio, video, and social for internal and external use.
- Experience collecting, vetting, synthesizing, organizing, maintaining, and sharing knowledge on behalf of an organization.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to listen, engage, learn from, and persuade internal and external stakeholders at all levels from diverse backgrounds.
- Interest in the field which could include experience working in health care, education, science, civic engagement, healthy democracy, bridge-building, philanthropy, and other fields as relevant.
- WordPress and Mailchimp experience highly preferred.
- Ability to work in-person in our New York City office at least three days a week*, which requires full COVID-19 vaccination status.

Salary range: $175,000-$200,000. In addition to base compensation, Einhorn Collaborative offers a performance-based bonus and generous benefits.
