Cornell Tech seeks a Host Site Program Director, Break Through Tech AI who will have leadership responsibility and management oversight for launching and running this new program in New York. This individual will play a critical role in leading program execution, developing the growth strategy, and building industry and academic partnerships within the region. The individual in this role will have management oversight for the recruitment and supervision of program staff members. The ideal candidate comes with experience leading programs with multiple corporate and academic partners.

   

Break Through Tech works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel more underrepresented women into higher education and careers in tech -- with a particular emphasis on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and first- generation college going women and non-binary students. In New York, the program has already served over 2000 undergraduate women; facilitating, encouraging, and enabling a significant increase in the participation of women in higher education in fields related to technology.

Hosted by Cornell Tech, Break Through Tech AI is the new program from Break Through Tech on a mission to credential and fast-track undergraduate women into careers in the fastest-growing areas of tech: data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Developed with industry leaders, the Break Through Tech AI program includes three high-level components that are considered critical for increasing the competitiveness and marketability of students pursuing AI/ML engineering roles: (1) skills-based training, (2) industry-relevant portfolios, and (3) mentorship, career coaching, and job placement support. Over the next four years, the Break Through AI program will expand nationwide to foster a diverse next generation of AI leaders who will build AI technologies that are fairer and more representative of our society.

This individual will play a critical role in leading program execution, developing the growth strategy, and building industry and academic partnerships within the region. The individual in this role will have management oversight for the recruitment and supervision of program staff members. The ideal candidate comes with experience leading programs with multiple corporate and academic partners. More specifically, we are looking for someone with a deep understanding of the culture of the tech industry and nature of tech jobs, is equally comfortable with the culture and nature of working in a higher education academic environment, has experience collaborating with both corporate and startup executives, and has demonstrated experience developing new program concepts that support the mission as well as operationalizing those concepts. This role also includes being a public spokesperson for the initiative.

The Host Site Program Director must thrive in a dynamic and continuously evolving environment and be able to independently “steer the ship” to stay on mission. The individual must have experience supervising other employees and growing as well as fostering a collaborative environment for student and professional volunteers. We are seeking a candidate with strong organizational skills and significant experience in both relationship management and program execution, with the ability to set priorities and coordinate ongoing activities in parallel, manage competing demands, and provide timely responses to urgent issues. The ideal candidate has a flexible, entrepreneurial spirit, has the ability to connect academic culture and curriculum to real-world digital culture, and excels in developing and managing both personal and corporate relationships.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible 3-year term position with the possibility of renewal. This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends, particularly during the academic year. It is expected that the individual in this role will be primarily working in-person on the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City with some flexibility for a hybrid remote work schedule.
