Position Overview and Responsibilities
USofCare is seeking a Communications Director to join our team of passionate, adaptable, accountable, innovative problem-solvers dedicated to making our health care system better for all people.
The Director of Communications serves a critical role in advancing USofCare’s public brand and visibility. Through strategic planning, department, project management, staff management, narrative development, earned media, and executive communications, the Director helps to advance USofCare’s policy and advocacy efforts as we work to become the national leader in people-centered health care policy.
The Director serves as an important member of the Communications team, working closely with the Chief Communications Officer to build and refine the organizational narrative, brand, and comprehensive press strategy. The Director leads on all major written communications, collaborating across departments and with experts on content goals, substance, and strategic rollout plans, as well as preparing spokespeople to engage with the media and give external speeches with messaging that aligns with our strategic narrative and programmatic work.
The Director will effectively manage a growing Communications staff and assist in hiring and management of vendors, freelancers, and capacity-increasing personnel.
The Director is an important role in the organization, and possesses a background in political or advocacy communications and supports USofCare’s people-first organizational priority. They will work closely with research and policy team members, consultants, and vendors to ensure that USofCare messaging is appropriately and informatively tested and that research lessons are incorporated most effectively to support our goals.
- To be successful in this role, you must have a strong commitment to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care, and have a dedication to operating in a diverse, bipartisan, learning atmosphere that explores multiple policy solutions to achieve our mission. You are willing to respect different points of view, and are committed to applying an equity lens and prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in all your work;
- 8-10 years of professional experience, at increasing levels of responsibility and leadership preferably in health care, public health, or other national issues. You have experience in and enjoy leading diverse communications staff, can build trust, and can leverage the strengths of your team members;
- Excellent and persuasive writing and communication skills, and the ability to engage with grasstops and/or grassroots storytellers to amplify a message;
- Effective project management skills, with the ability to balance innovation and creativity with the ability to organize in order to get the work done. You are able to juggle projects, priorities, deadlines, and resources to drive strategic brand, campaigns, products, and narratives;
- Willingness to be adaptable, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and to accept and meet challenges head on.
Work at United States of Care
USofCare is committed to equity in our compensation policy. The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000 depending on experience and location.

This position is full-time and is fully remote. Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States.
